What's new on mobile

The full StoryTribe editor now runs on your phone. Write scripts, illustrate scenes, reorder your storyboard, and share video links, all without switching to a desktop. If you're used to StoryTribe on desktop, here's what's changed and how to find your way around.

UI of four view of a project

Four views, one project

The mobile editor groups your work into four views, toggled from the top toolbar:

  • Canvas - illustrate one scene at a time on a zoomable whiteboard.
  • Writer - plan and edit the script for each scene as a list.
  • Overview - see every scene in your storyboard at a glance.
  • Video Editor - stitch your scenes together and refine the final cut.

You'll move between them freely. A typical flow is to draft scripts in Writer, illustrate each scene in Canvas, check the full story in Overview, then animate it in Video Editor.

UI of Canvas editor

Illustrating a scene in Canvas mode

Canvas mode is the visual side of the editor. The canvas takes up most of the screen, with a toolbar at the bottom for your tools.

Common actions:

  • Add objects: tap +, then pick from characters, add shapes, text or upload images.
  • Browse assets: tap the search button to find props, scenes, icons and images.
  • Pen Tool: switch to the pen tool in the bottom toolbar to sketch directly on the canvas.
  • Select multiple objects: drag across the canvas to select a few objects at once. Tap to add more, or tap a selected object to remove it.
  • Zoom and pan: pinch to zoom, two-finger drag to pan around the canvas.

To check or edit the script for the current scene without leaving Canvas, tap the Script icon in the bottom toolbar. A sheet slides up with that scene's notes.

Writing your script in Writer mode

Writer mode shows each scene as a stacked card with a title and your annotation fields: dialogue, action, camera notes, or whichever fields your project uses.

To work with scenes:

  • Add a scene: tap the + Add scene button at the bottom of the list to create an empty scene.
  • Write scenes with AI: tap Write scenes with AI at the top, describe your story in a sentence, and StoryTribe will draft a set of scenes for you.
  • Import a script: tap Import script to paste an existing script, and StoryTribe will break it into scenes automatically.
  • Customize fields: open the more options menu (•••) and select Fields to choose which annotation fields appear on your cards.
  • Edit a scene: tap directly on any title or annotation to start typing.
  • Reorder scenes: drag the handle on the left of a card up or down.
  • Delete a scene: tap the bin icon on the right of the card.

UI of overview mode in mobile editor

Navigating with Overview mode

Overview shows every scene in your project at once. Use the sub-toggle at the top to switch between:

  • Read: a continuous, top-to-bottom scroll of scenes paired with their scripts. Designed for review, feedback, and reading through your story end to end.
  • Tiles: a grid of scene thumbnails for quick scanning and reordering. To reorder, press and hold a tile, then drag it to its new position.

Tap any scene to open it directly in Canvas mode.

UI of video editor

Turning your storyboard into video

Turn your storyboard into a shareable video. Set the timing, add AI voice-over and music, and send a link. No extra tools needed.

Everything works just like it does on desktop. The layout is simply arranged a little differently for your phone.

UI of export button

Exporting and sharing

When your storyboard is ready, tap the share icon in the top toolbar. You can share your storyboard or video as a link, or download the project as a PDF to save to your phone or send through the standard iOS or Android share menu.
