Changing a character's look and colors
Characters are black-and-white line art: swap their hair, face, clothes and pose in the character editor. There is no color to change; for a character in color, use Tribe AI.

What you can change
Select the character, then click it once more to open the character editor. The tabs cover the hair, face, top, arms, legs and extras like glasses, and you can turn the head and body. See Customizing characters for the full walkthrough.
Can I change the colors?
No. Characters are drawn as black-and-white line art: there's no color picker, no skin tone or hair color setting, and no colored versions of the clothes. In StoryTribe, color belongs to shapes, lines, text and the canvas background.
If you want a character in color
- Tribe AI: send the character to Tribe AI and describe the color and style you want. It uses AI credits.
- Retouch: in the toolbar above the character, Retouch edits it with AI where it stands.
Either way the character becomes an image. It keeps its look, but it no longer has swappable parts, poses or expressions, so finish the look you want before you send it to AI.
To stay in line art, start from a different character instead: the library covers a range of builds, ages and features, so pick the closest one and rebuild the outfit.
