Fix a failed payment
If a renewal fails you'll see Your last payment failed. Update your card to keep your plan. Click Update payment, add a working card in the portal, and the retry goes through automatically.

- A banner on your dashboard reads
Your last payment failed. Update your card to keep your plan.ClickUpdate payment(or Settings › Billing › Manage billing). - In the billing portal, add a new card or fix the existing one (expiry, address) and make it the default.
- Stripe retries the charge over the following days. Once it succeeds the banner goes and your plan continues from where it was. If you'd rather not wait, pay the open invoice from the portal's invoice list.
While it's unpaid
Your plan's features stay on during the retry window. If every retry fails the subscription ends and the account drops to Free (a Studio workspace becomes read-only with a Reactivate Studio prompt). Nothing is deleted; upgrade again to pick up where you left off.
Common causes
- An expired or replaced card; the old number is still on file.
- The bank blocked a recurring or foreign charge; approving StoryTribe or Stripe with the bank fixes it.
- Insufficient funds on the day of renewal.
