Building in public with StoryTribe: The journey to success

As a co-founder of StoryTribe, I have seen the power of building in public firsthand. When Yunmie Kim and I first started our entrepreneurial journey, our belief in our product was strong, but the thought of openly sharing our ideas with the public and facing criticism was intimidating. However, as we began to build an audience and receive feedback, our confidence in what we were creating grew, and we have never looked back.

Building in public has taught us so much, including:

  • Building an audience before the release of our product allowed us to gather valuable feedback from a wide range of individuals, helping us refine and improve our offering.
  • User interviews with individuals who signed up gave us a diverse range of perspectives, further improving our product.
  • Building connections within the industry and with potential customers has given us a unique advantage in the market and helped us stand out from competitors.
  • Instant feedback from our audience helped us validate our ideas and ensure they were on the right track.
  • Our transparency about our ideas has built trust with our audience and attracted talented individuals who share our vision and mission.
  • Building relationships with future investors has been made easier through the open sharing of our ideas and progress.

In conclusion, if you're an entrepreneur with a product idea, I strongly encourage you to take a leap of faith and try "building in public". You never know what opportunities may arise as a result. Don't be afraid of criticism or skepticism, the benefits of receiving constructive feedback and having a wider range of individuals contribute to the development of your product far outweigh the potential drawbacks.
